It is hard to describe a modern family there is a proverb. Every country has it’s own customs, and of course the same can be said about families.
Now families are not the same as 10 years ago.  
Traditionally a man was the leader in a family, in a topical Russian family. But not you can meet a lot of families where a woman work and take equal part in financial support of the family. Still a Russian family cannot be called democratic; usually the total strict control is applied. Men control women and vice versa.
Usually there are one or two children in the family. They are brought up in an absolutely different way that it was even 5 years ago. They have much more freedom. At the present moment the requirements of the society have changed – one should be strong, purposeful, responsible, to be successful and children adjust to it very quickly. They absorb the surrounding situation and suit to it much.
As a peculiarity of the Russian way of upbringing it can be mentioned that parents take care of their children very much, they control almost everything what their children do, they devote all their lives to their children and children are very dependent on the parents. Very often children live with their parents after they leave school and even when they get married.
Of course there are reasons for the total parents control. Drug and alcohol addictions are spread fairly widely. The criminal situation is far from being perfect. Parents try to protect their children as much as they can, as well for their children – the best clothes, the best school, the best university. All this is very dependent on the financial situation of the family. Money is one determine factor in our society and of course the amount of the family budget is very important.
