Tomsk
Tomsk is an old Siberian town. It is situated on the bank of the river Tom, in west Siberia. It is surrounded by fine forests of pine, bitch, cedar and fir trees.
Tomsk was founded in 1604. Before the Revolution Tomsk was just like any other small Siberian town-wooden houses, unpaved dusty narrow streets, no parks and no gardens. At the beginning of the 18-th century Tomsk became an administrative and commercial center of Siberia. In 1888 Tomsk University, the first in Siberia was opened and Tomsk became a center of education and culture of Siberia.
Now Tomsk is known as a great educational, scientific, cultural and industrial center with all the features of a modern city. As an educational center Tomsk is famous for its Universities.
There are many places of interest and monuments in the town.
Tomsk is a green town. Its suburbs are picturesque. Even a short stay in Tomsk makes a great impression on visitors. We are proud of our town.
